Jon Hinck, Esq.

Jon Hinck has led a distinguished career as a lawyer, legislator, and environmentalist.  He brings a tremendous amount of experience to Fitzgerald Law Group, LLC where he serves as Of Counsel working on medical device, prescription drug, consumer protection and environmental mass tort litigations.

Prior to joining Fitzgerald Law Group, LLC, Jon practiced with another national mass tort firm. In that capacity, Jon represented plaintiffs in a national unfair debt collection class actions and in MTBE drinking water contamination class actions, In re MTBE Products Liability Litigation (S.D.N.Y.) and Millett v. Atlantic Richfield Co., No. CV-98-555 (Superior Ct. Maine) as well as in other mass tort litigations, including cases arising from defective pharmaceuticals such as Baycol (cerivastatin), Fleet Phospho-Soda, Levaquin (levofloxacin), Trovan (Trovafloxacin), and Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone).

In 2006, Jon was elected to serve in the Maine State Legislature as a State Representative and was re-elected twice.  He was the House Chair and Minority Lead in the Legislature’s Joint Energy and Utilities Committee.

In 2013, Jon was elected as an At-Large Member to the City Council in Portland, Maine where he served one term.

Jon previously served as Staff Attorney with the Natural Resources Council of Maine (NRCM), Maine’s leading environmental advocacy group. With NRCM, he worked to promote renewable energy and control mercury pollution and other toxic hazards.  In 2004, he led the successful effort to enact Maine’s first-in-the-nation electronic waste law that allows Mainers to return old computer monitors and televisions to be recycled in an environmentally sound manner at manufacturer expense.

Prior to moving to Maine, Jon was the Acting Attorney General for the Republic of Palau where he successfully litigated a series of cases that enabled the Pacific island state to gain its sovereignty in 1994.

As an associate with Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann & Bernstein in San Francisco, California, Jon worked on environmental, investor and consumer class actions and served as plaintiffs’ class counsel in In re Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Litigation, Civ. No. A89-095 (consolidated) (D. Alaska).

As an associate with Morrison & Foerster, he represented defendants in securities fraud class actions such as In re VeriFone Securities Litigation, Civ. No. C-90-2705-VRW (N.D. Cal.)

Before he attended law school, Jon was one of the founding members of Greenpeace USA where he directed the group’s nationwide program and worked for clean air and clear water and protection of the marine environment.

Jon is a 1990 graduate of the Law School at the University of California Berkeley, where he was an Associate Editor of and published in the California Law Review. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History in 1976 from the University of Pennsylvania.
