Maine Valsartan Lawsuit
Several generic medications containing the active ingredient valsartan have been found to contain the organic chemical compound N-nitrosodimethyalmine, or NDMA, a probable human carcinogen. These drugs are commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure and left ventricular failure or left ventricular dysfunction suffered after a heart attack.
Valsartan sold by Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmacuticals Industries are included in the recall.
NDMA is produced by chemical reactions created in the process of manufacturing valsartan. Studies have shown NDMA causes cancerous tumors in almost any organ, including in the liver, kidneys and lungs. NDMA has also been linked to liver, kidney, gastric, colorectal, nasal and lung cancer, as well as other types of liver damage.
Patients using valsartan should contact their health care providers to discuss other possible medication and treatment options. Patients should never discontinue these medications without professional medical advice as there are serious risks associated with suddenly stopping treatment for high blood pressure and heart failure.
If you or a loved one has taken a high blood pressure or heart failure medication containing valsartan and suffered a liver cancer or another type of cancer, you may be entitled to significant compensation for your injuries.
